Mike Hubberstey SEAT SNIFFER BANNED BY BBC
Licence fee payers pick up tab for extra security

SECURITY measures are being stepped up at a BBC auction in a bid to thwart a notorious perv who’s desperate to sniff telly babe Konnie Huq’s Blue Peter sofa seat. One- off props, costumes and furniture from many of the Beeb’s best- loved shows are being auctioned off, giving people a chance to own a piece of TV history. The corporation is shelling out thousands of pounds of TV Licence- payers’ dosh on extra bouncers and security gear, including CCTV cameras and a high- tech laser sensor alarm system.
And Sunday Sport can EXCLUSIVELY reveal it’s all part of an increased effort to frustrate depraved fan Mike Hubberstey, who wants the iconic Blue Peter sofa for his own sordid sexual gratification.
Telly bosses have already enforced a ban, forbidding Mike from entering the sale, but they’ve had to resort to putting additional measures in place after the pint- sized creep evaded guards. Mike, from Croydon, Surrey, is said to be besotted with 38- year- old Konnie – Blue Peter’s longest- serving female presenter – and would pay a handsome amount just to get a lungful of her bottom- brushed cushion.
Defiled
A BBC source revealed: “This weirdo is obsessed with Konnie and he’s told some of the doormen he’d do anything to sniff the sofa that she sat on during her Blue Peter days. “Apparently, that’s his thing – sniffing seats where TV babes have been – he’s been done for it a few times, on buses, park benches and in pubs.
“We don’t want such an iconic piece of TV history being defiled.” “He’s not much bigger than a dwarf, so it’s hard to spot him. We need all the help we can get to keep him out.”
In the last 10 months, the BBC has spent £ 5million of licence fee payers’ money investigating the Savile sex scandal and its aftermath. And news the corporation is now forking out even more cash to fend- off a sofa- sniffing oddball is likely to leave viewers fuming. Costumes from top police drama Ashes To Ashes and props from sci- fi shows Doctor Who and Red Dwarf are among the 1,200 lots up for grabs at the auction, which runs until July 26. The items – which include the bright orange, blue and purple sofas from the Blue
Peter set in 2007 – are no longer needed, with the BBC having moved from Television Centre in London to its new base in Salford.
